Appointed to die…

“And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.” Heb. 9:27-28

This morning I am thinking about those who have been appointed to die. Some have cancer, those who are aged and those who are unsuspecting. Each of us will face a time, whether we see it coming or not, when we will leave this mortal coil and pass to eternal life. Some to eternal reward, those who have obeyed the gospel and entrusted themselves to the blood of Jesus Christ. Others, to eternal punishment, who have rejected or neglected that gospel message.

I have family and friends who have seen and now see the imminence of that event and it really changes your view of what is important. We need to “put our house in order, for we are going to die.” We are appointed to die once and then comes the judgment. Nothing will stop it, it is coming.

Death comes for us all.

Unless the Lord returns before that appointment comes for us, we will all meet it. We need in that group that the Hebrew writer mentions above, those who are ready, saved and eagerly waiting for Him!
