Wisdom

I find it interesting that when I looked for an image for my thoughts this morning, all I found was: knowledge, books, learning, education, but no particular picture for wisdom. Odd… Except, wisdom is the proper application of knowledge. How do you draw a picture of proper application, it’s an action of the mind.

I was considering a story I read this morning about a new fossil find that dated back billions of years. As I first thought of this, I pictured a fish or maybe a sea creature of some sort or maybe even a microscopic picture of a cell, but then I read the article. It seems that there was a strange formation of rock that “might” be formed by a colony of bacteria. It was assumed that this was the cause of the formation and then dating of that particular formation was carried out and the resulting statement and headline announced that a “fossil” had been found. Really?!?

Now, I really do love science and all that goes with it. I love seeing and figuring out how our world works. But… I also look at this world as a creation of a our God and therefore, temper my assumptions based on His revelation.

Solomon said, Prov. 1:7, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” If we don’t start with God as the creator, our accumulated knowledge and application will be faulted. It may be simplistic, but I prefer to accept the testimony of God’s Word and view my world through the lens of a Creator, and what an amazing creation it is!

Wisdom from above

Paul tells us in 1 Cor. 1:²⁰ Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?²¹ For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. ²² For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom,²³ but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, ²⁴ but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. ²⁵ For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

God’s foolishness is wiser than men… When we try to explain without taking Him into consideration, we make fools of ourselves. By all means, let us examine, let us consider, let us observe and draw conclusions, but let us not ignore the source and design of the Designer.

Perhaps we, in our foolishness, should listen to the Creator! Just thinking… God bless!
