“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. … For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” Gal. 5:1, 13
“Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.” 1 Pet. 2:16
Freedom is a wonderful thing, but it is NOT an excuse for sinful behavior. In the Bible, whenever freedom is discussed, it is always in relation to our enslavement to sin, not our physical freedom. Our physical condition is incidental. Our spiritual condition is of utmost importance. Biblical freedom is freedom to be obedient to righteousness! Read closely Romans 6.
We need moral restraint and godliness in order for freedom to succeed in a civil society. If this is true, and it is, then we need the basic moral principles of righteousness to pervade our lives and the lives of those around us in order for us to be truly free! So, let’s keep teaching those principles, God’s Word. True Freedom!!
God bless and have a great day!
