Good Morning!
“But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” Titus 3:4-7
Salvation is not a matter of good deeds done versus bad deeds done or righteousness versus unrighteousness. He saved us by His grace. Now, don’t forget that good deeds are necessary to demonstrate your faith (see James 2). Salvation is by grace through faith (active obedience). The works do not earn you salvation, they demonstrate your faith!
In mercy, He recreates us in the washing of regeneration (baptism). He saved us by the renewal of the Holy Spirit in our lives. I know some try to make this into solely a spiritual matter, but a washing involves water and a cleansing agent. Water plus the saving blood of Jesus Christ are regenerating combination!
Being justified, lined up with His standard of righteousness, we become members of His family and as family, we share in the inheritance. Eternal life! He saved us.
Doesn’t remembering these things make for a good start to the week?
God bless and have a great day!!
